Concept Art
Creating the concept art for "The Cherry Red Shed" was a deeply personal journey, as it drew inspiration from my late Grandad, who crafted beautiful rocking horses. I aimed to evoke a sense of nostalgia and warmth in every illustration, capturing the vibrant charm of the shed where imagination flourished. The concept art blends whimsical elements with a touch of realism, allowing viewers to connect emotionally with the story. Each piece serves as a visual homage to my Grandad’s creativity and the magical moments we shared, setting the stage for an engaging narrative filled with love and craftsmanship.
Charcter Designs
In developing the character designs I focused on infusing personality and depth into each figure. It was essential to create characters that could resonate with the audience and reflect the warmth and joy my Grandad embodied. By designing turnarounds, I ensured that each character was well-rounded and consistent throughout the animation. My Grandad’s character was particularly significant, as I really wanted to capture his spirit. The character designs, coupled with their turnarounds, not only brought the story to life but also forged a deeper connection with viewers through their designs.
Rendering Process
The rendering process for my animation was a meticulous journey, centering on carefully controlled lighting and strategic camera angles to capture the essence of each scene. I employed two distinct rendering techniques to balance quality and efficiency. The animation rendering, while slightly lower in quality, allowed me to produce frames quickly without compromising the overall visual integrity of the story. In contrast, my high-end renders demanded significantly more time and attention, as each frame was treated with extra care. I optimised the lighting to create an inviting atmosphere while ensuring that shaders looked their absolute best, down to meticulously adjusting reflections in the characters' eyes. This commitment to detail meant that every frame, particularly those pivotal moments in the narrative, exuded a polished quality that invites viewers deeper into the emotional world of the animation.
Modelling
Modelling was a comprehensive aspect of my peice as it involved creating every element necessary for the animation. This included myself, my Grandad's character, and the intricately designed sets that reflect the warmth and creativity of his workshop. I meticulously crafted each set and prop to capture every intricate detail. Each character was designed with care, ensuring that they not only fit the story visually but also added depth to the emotional journey of the animation. This holistic approach to modelling allowed for a cohesive and engaging experience that honors my Grandad's legacy.
